PROJECT EXPERIENCE SYNOPSIS
Pressure Sciences Incorporated has solved an unusually diverse set
of engineering problems. Some examples include:
- Performed a failure analysis of a large recuperator used in the metals
industry; of welded stainless steel piping subjected to hydraulic transients.
- Obtained Pennsylvania State Special Registration of a cold isostatic
press built from a 16 inch naval gun, of six non-Code high pressure vessels
used for growing quartz crystals, of eight boilers and heat exchangers
built to the German TRD and AD Merkblatter Codes, and of eleven jacketed
grease kettels.
- Provided conceptual design and stress analysis for the manufacturer
of a specialized semi-trailer built to transport toxic hypergolic fuels
for NASA Kennedy Space Center. This semi-trailer was required to meet very
rigid new USDOT design requirements and to withstand several unique postulated
accidents.
- Evaluated over three hundred riveted and welded API 12A and API 650
oil storage tanks using the criteria of API 653 for inservice inspections.
- Developed an engineering specification, suitable for computer programming,
for Mobil Oil Corporation to evaluate riveted and welded oil storage tanks
according to the requirements of API Standard 653.
- Put into place and implemented mechanical integrity programs for standard
and non-standard pressure vessels and storage tanks for several chemical
process plants.
- Provided design and analysis support for a manufacturer of dry storage
silos and hoppers, and for several manufacturers of ASME Code pressure
vessels; and provided Professional Engineering Certification of ASME Code
vessels.
- Analyzed and redesigned a large process piping loop subjected to high
thermal loads and very high seismic loads in southeast China.
- Determined the cause of a shaft failure in a large rotating heat exchanger,
and quickly developed and supervised a repair procedure to minimize down-time.
- Performed documentation and visual or nondestructive examination of
pressure vessels and storage vessels for several chemical manufacturers.
- Performed a failure analysis and redesign of rectangular expansion
joints for a waste-gas incinerator, and of leaking gasketed closures for
a series of rotary shell and tube dryers.
- Performed documentation and inspection projects for PSM program implementation,
evaluated severely corroded tanks and vessels, and recommended safety critical
modifications and reinspection programs.
- For the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, evaluated the public and environmental
safety of a large refrigerated liquefied propane gas storage facility.
